I had the opportunity to go to the womens’ prison in Grants a while back to capture the story of Renee and Bella, a young female inmate and her daughter. PB&J Family services provides ways for families to have ways to stay close even in difficult times. PB&J provided a home environment right there on the prison grounds for women to be able to spend time with their kids, cooking, caring and playing. PB&J also provides support for these families to learn parenting skills at the same time.
Let me introduce you to Renee & Bella…
Kyle Zimmerman amazes me not only as a photographer but as a champion for humanity! She placed herself within the women’s prison and with grace and warmth earned the trust of an incarcerated mom who had a story to tell. Too many little girls and boys lose their moms (and daddy’s) to prison, leaving them anxious, guilt-ridden and too often, facing similar paths to their parents — dropping out of school, and using gangs and drugs to fill the emotional gaps and hide the trauma of losing their parent. PB&J does change the outcome of that story and Kyle captured it and continues to be our champion! thank you Kyle!!!!!
